Dear writers, artists, & photographers,

I thank you for taking the time to look at our lovely, all be it sparse, website. Below you will find the guidelines for submission. Please follow them if you can; if you don't, I assume that it a decision that you came to due to personal reasons. But you can help us by following the guidelines:

SUBJECT MATTER

We will only accept subject matter that is 1st person narrative, be it fictional or non. It can be a story, an experience, even a thought. If you are so inclined, we would like it to be voice-driven (experimental is fine too). If there are any artists out there that would like to submit a graphic novel, that would be great too. This is, after all, a paper we are publishing.

LENGTH

Nothing too short and please, also, nothing too long. There are only a few of us here and we would like to go out tonight.

SUBMIT VIA EMAIL

Please attach your submission as a Word file (.doc). That is all we accept. If we cannot open it, don't expect a 'we could not open this' email in response. The subject heading of your email should include words like "submission" or "story." Also, your attachment name should be the title of your story, not 'Hear Us Roar' or 'Story' because if we like it; we have no way to find it again. I doubt we will go a digging for it. Send your submission to submissions@hearusroaronline.com

COVER LETTER

Don't really need one. But do please put the name of the story, word count, and All of your contact info in the BODY of the email.

FORMATTING

Courier or even Times New Roman works, or if you can find the font used on this website that would be fine too. Ya know what, any font is fine. I will just erase all formatting when I get it, so send it in Wingdings if you want to.

YOUR CONTACT INFORMATION

Should be in your submission and in the body of the email. Please include your name, mailing address, phone number, and email address at the beginning of your story, your name should probably be on every page as well. We think it is called a header or footnote.

AUTHOR BIOS

Feel free to include a brief biography of yourself as an additional attachment.

PREVIOUSLY PUBLISHED WORK

Don't care but if you would like to tell us, then by all means go ahead.

RIGHTS

Only original and new submissions. Simultaneous submissions are fine by us just be a dear and let us know if you have been accepted somewhere else and would like to withdraw your submission. We only want first publication rights. Upon publication, all rights revert back to you, the writer, where it belongs. Reprints will not occur without writer's direct permission. Again, if you did not Hear Us, nothing that has been previously published can be accepted.

RESPONSE TIME

Can be anywhere between a few days and a few weeks. We read extremely fast, and also we are new, so there are no stacks of submissions lying around. But give us a few months; I am sure there will be.

PLEASE NOTE:

We are prudent about content. We read everything, and try to offer feedback on promising stories that didn't quite work for us. So be proactive and give us anything ya got (we can handle it).

PAYMENT:

As of now the only payment we can offer are free copies, which can then be rubbed in the faces of all your friends. In the future we hope to have grander forms of compensation like 2 free copies.

Hmmm. This might be difficult. We welcome all kinds of photographic/comic work, even a series that tells a story.

Please provide a short description and maybe a caption or two with photos. You don't want us to pervert your photo with horribly inaccurate captions. There is no need for that with comics because we hope that they are self-explanatory.

It is best to email us at submissions@hearusroaronline.com with low-res jpegs as an example of the work. If we like the work and want to see more, this can then be followed up by a request for more images.
